Idukki
This hill station is situated in the district of Idukki at an elevation of 750 to 2500 m above sea level. In the language of Malayalam, the meaning of the word Idukki is ‘a narrow gorge’. The rivers named Periyar, Thodupuzha & Thalayar enhance its importance of this destination as the most charming hill station in Kerala. The town of Marayur or Marayoor in the district of Idukki is the only place in the state of Kerala having abundance of natural sandalwood forests. The arch dam of Idukki, having a hydroelectric project with its capacity of supplying about 66% of the power consumption of the state of Kerala, is 2nd in the world & 1st in Asia along with being the main attraction of this spot. Other main attractions of Idukki are wildlife sanctuary, waterfalls at Keezharkuthu, the rolling plantations of spice & tea. Wayanad
This destination in the charming district of Wayanad, which is situated on the top of the Deccan Plateau on the side of its southern part with the Western Ghats passing through it in the north-eastern part of the state of Kerala, is one of the most renowned hill stations of India. Wayanad has the mountains with mist having rivers suitable for the good cultivation of coffee, tea, pepper, rubber, cardamom & other spices, so this hill station is abundant in tropical forests, lush green sloping plains of spice plantation. Devikulam
This destination is the small hill station, which is situated about 5 km far from Munnar in the district of Idukki in the state of Kerala in India. The meaning of the word Devikulamis ‘the pond of Devi’ (Here the word Devistands for ‘Sita Devi’ & Kulam for ‘pond’). According to legend, this spot got its name for Sita Devi, a main character in the Great Hindu Epic Ramayana, bathed in the water of the charming lake of Devikulam, covered by lush & green hills. Along with having its piousness, this lake has the power of curing many skin diseases for its mineral waters, so this lake attracts the tourists from all over the world. The main attractions of this hill station are the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, trout fishing in lake, thrilling waterfalls, the natural vegetation of slim blue, red & yellow gum trees, dense & green tea plantations.
Thekkady
Thekkady, which has the Periyar National Park, one of the prime tourist attractions in the state of Kerala, India, is another charming hill station in the district of Idukki, Kerala. It is the suitable destination to explore wildlife in Kerala, which has an abundance of elephants. Here tourists can enjoy elephant safari & a boat cruise on the Periyar Lake with prime attractions in the wildlife sanctuary. Trekking is the adventure activity, which is performed here.
